Danone Romania increased its profit by 20% in 2016 | Progresiv
Danone Romania, the leader of the yogurt market, registered a turnover of 479 million lei in 2016, in a slight contraction compared to the previous year when revenues reported were at 484 million lei, while in the profit chapter the French made progress nearing the threshold of 16 million lei, 20% more than in 2015.
"Danone's results in Romania in 2016 create a basis for further sustainable business development and local investment, including in the Bucharest plant and supporting local partners delivering our milk. Danone remains a strong leader in the yoghurt segment, this category representing our core business", said Natalia Gelstein Kiss, General Manager Danone Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova and Adriatic Countries.
The press release issued by the company also shows that yogurt brands that add value to consumers - such as those in active health segments (Activia, Actimel) and children (Danonino) - have seen a strong positive trend in 2016, reaching even double-digit growth rates. An explanation for the performance of these segments is that, according to Nielsen Shopper Consumption 2016-2017, "3 out of 4 Romanians said they actively sought healthy products and preferred premium variants both for categories and brands."
"Value added yogurts will remain the focus of our attention for 2017 as well. After a slower start of the year, we are now evolving very well and we expect the results of this year to be in line with expectations. The large-scale campaigns for Activia, Actimel and Danonino are ready for launch for the summer", adds Natalia Gelstein Kiss.
The company has in its portfolio dozens of product assortments, most of them made in the Bucharest factory. The Danone plant produced the first yogurts in 1999, and today more than 1 million yogurts are produced on average daily, processing annually over 55 million liters of milk, mainly from farms or households in Romania.
Danone Romania is part of the Danone company, active in the following domains: fresh dairy products, bottled mineral water, baby food and advanced medical nutrition.
