Carrefour Romania, the second highest growth at group level, in 2017 | Progresiv
Carrefour Romania ended 2017 with a turnover of 2.01 billion euros, up by 7.7% compared to 2016, according to the financial report published by the company. This is the second biggest increase at group level, after the performance of the French in Argentina, where the retailer recorded an increase of 17.6% of like for like sales compared to 2016. 
In terms of fourth-quarter results, Carrefour posted sales of 570 million euros on the local market, up by 7.8% over the same period in 2016. The result positions Romania in the top of the countries with the best growth at European level (except France). At European level, which the French describe as a highly competitive environment in the report, the results reported by the retailer shows an increase of 1.3% in 2017, to the value of 23.56 billion euros, similar to 2016.
As for group performance, French retailer Carrefour describes 2017 as a difficult one in which like-for-like sales advanced only 1.6%, to 88.24 billion euros. According to analysts, neither 2018 will be a comfortable year for Carrefour and the group will announce at the end of this month its new strategic plan to re-launch the company's activities, one of the anticipated moves being to cut costs by 1 billion euros.
