Carrefour Blegium adding convenient solutions | Progresiv
In separate developments, Carrefour Belgium has officially launched its ‘Simply You’ meal box and expanded the presence of its convenience store banner Carrefour Express.
After a trial period, which started in October 2016, Carrefour Belgium has officially launched its meal box solution, ‘Simply You’. The solution is now available from 85 stores in the country, while also being available for home delivery. Underlining the convenience of the solution, Carrefour said all the recipes can be cooked in 30 minutes. Shoppers do not have to pay a subscription fee, while they are priced at €40, for three meals for two people, and 60 euros, for three meals for people.
The retailer said the solution remained the same as that initially introduced, with shoppers able to choose three meals from a list of nine. The nine meals are split evenly between classic, family-friendly and vegetarian options, with shoppers able to choose boxes for two or four people. The boxes contain recipe cards to take shoppers through how to cook the meal, while they can also watch videos online by scanning a QR code on the recipe card.
Solutions like the one officially confirmed by Carrefour Belgium was one of the elements highlighted in our Global retailer outlook 2017. Subscribers can read about this trend and the others we have identified here.
Adding to the number of locations that it operates Express stores in, Carrefour Belgium has opened two stores in hospitals, taking its presence in such locations to four. The two new Express mean that Carrefour has opened three stores in hospitals in the last year. The retailer has said it has adapted the range by adding ‘a hospital-tailored bespoke offering’.
In an interview with Gondola, a spokesperson for Carrefour, Baptiste van Outryve said that such locations were being increasingly interesting to the retailer due to their high levels of footfall. However, van Outryve stressed the importance of getting the stores’ ranges right, given their small selling area – 95 sq. m and 125 sq. m – and due to the unique mix of shoppers they are targeting. The two new sites have been opened as part of Carrefour’s aim to add 24 Express stores in Belgium during 2017. (www.igd.com)
