Albert Heijn opens new concept store | Progresiv
Dutch retailer Albert Heijn has opened a new concept store in Hoofddorp, The Netherlands, where the retailer says 'a number of developments in the area of assortment and formula' have come together. 
For example, the new store gives additional floor space to its fresh product selection, while also increasing the level of in-store technology throughout.
Albert Heijn said that this store is putting an emphasis on its fresh assortment in order to contribute to a better life for its customers.
The store stocks bulbs, seeds, seed cuttings and accessories to encourage those with green fingers. It also uses dry mist sprinklers to keep fruit and vegetables fresh for longer.
There is also a sweet and confectionery area where customers can pick and mix between chocolates, chocolate-coated nuts, biscuits and donuts.
From a technology point of view, the store uses electronic price tags as well as an interactive screen where customers can order heavy groceries for delivery to their home.
The store also offers various forms of self-scanning. Customers can scan products with hand scanners, with their mobile phone or with the scan & go.
Albert Heijn was recently named the most sustainable supermarket chain in the Netherlands. (www.esmmagazine.com)
